The Torn Veil

With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.
The curtain (veil) of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
Mark 15:37-38
The tearing of the temple veil can be seen as symbolic of the fact that, according to the new covenant, we no
longer need priests to intercede with God for us. Jesus called us a kingdom of priests and we now are free to
enter the holy of holies. But there's more...
God was bursting at the seams, to get out of there. When I envision the tearing of the temple veil, I feel silly
saying it, but I think of the way the incredible hulk would burst out of his clothing. I can almost hear God roaring,
as Jesus cried out loudly and breathed his last, I can hear God with power and joy bursting out of that little
curtained room. And because we are no longer boxing him into that little curtained room in the middle of the
temple of Jerusalem, he is free to grow in our lives as much as our perception of him will allow. God is bigger,
infinitely bigger than our understanding of him.
